Bass Lake Provincial Park – Canoe, Kayak & Paddleboard

⚠️ Don’t forget to check Bass Lake park alerts before traveling. Advisories include boil water advisories, fire bans, beach conditions and a whole lot more useful information that might impact your visit.

Day Use Vehicle Permits: because of the popularity of this park, it is one that may need permits to be purchased in advance in order to guarantee park access. This was started in 2021 and will continue in 2022.
If you’re smart, grab the permit before any visit, even mid-week. We found this out the hard way at our local Provincial Park.
You can buy the vehicle permit up to 5 days in advance, which guarantees you access to the park on that day. If you have an annual or season pass, you should still book your permit online, but there’s no extra charge.

Canoe & Kayak

Bass Lake is a gorgeous little lakeside park in southern Ontario. It has three designated canoe routes with plenty of landing spots along the way, making it perfect for all levels from beginners to experts!

Paddle Safely

  1. Plan ahead and check with the park for any specific knowledge you’ll need.
  2. Be weather aware before and during your adventure, no matter how short.
  3. Have a plan, and make sure people know where you are going and when you’ll be back.
  4. Avoid traveling alone, especially if you’re a novice.
  5. Wear your Personal Flotation Device (PFD), don’t just carry it.
  6. Attach a good quality whistle to your PFD (no little balls/peas).
  7. Carry a cell phone or radio (in a waterproof bag that floats).
  8. Carry safety equipment kit, including buoyant towline, bailer, and waterproof flashlight.
  9. Recommended are change of clothing/waterproof clothing in a dry sack.

Canoe & Kayak Rental

Bass Lake Provincial Park offers canoes, stand-up paddle boards, and kayaks for rent from the end of June to Labour Day. A security deposit is required, but you must be 16 years old or older with identification in order to reserve your boat; each rental comes equipped with all necessary equipment, including personal floatation devices (PFDs). If needed, they also offer PFFD loaners where users get their own paddling jacket valued at 30 dollars deposited onto credit card accounts—a great deal considering how expensive new jackets have become these days!

Where to Launch

Bass Lake is a beautiful lake with many opportunities for fun. There’s an official boat launch that can be used year-round, but it gets more use between May and September when campers are present as well! The fee to access this facility includes the cost of your campsite rental and seasonal pass purchase if you’re not camping at Bass Pro Park itself.
